Maddie's Fund® Grant

(August, 2008) Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) has been given a grant of $81,750 from Maddie's Fund to administer the first phase of spay/neuter program in Dane
County involving feral cats and cats of low-income people. The Maddie's Fund grant will give DCFoF $35 for every non DCFoF male cat and $75 for every non DCFoF female cat that is neutered/spayed through TNR at our monthly spay days.

DCFoF will be given $521 for every cat rescued from DCHS that is above and beyond our base line adoption number each month set in 2007and $104 for every cat rescued from the public (not DCHS) that is above and beyond our base line adoption number each month set in 2007.

Dane County Friends of Ferals is a proud partner with Dane County Humane Society in a joint effort to increase adoptions and spay/neuter surgeries in
Dane County over the next five years.

What is Maddie's Fund?

Maddie’s Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation, is a family foundation funded by Workday and PeopleSoft Founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Maddie's Fund is helping to create a no-kill nation where all healthy and treatable shelter dogs and cats are guaranteed a loving home. To achieve this goal, Maddie's Fund is investing its resources in building community collaborations where animal welfare organizations come together to develop successful models of lifesaving; in veterinary colleges to help shelter medicine become part of the veterinary curriculum; in private practice veterinarians to encourage greater participation in the animal welfare cause; and in the implementation of national strategies to collect and report shelter statistics.

Who is Maddie?

Maddie’s Fund is named after the Duffield’s beloved Miniature Schnauzer. The foundation makes good on a promise the family made to Maddie to give back to her kind in dollars that which Maddie gave to them in friendship and love. Maddie passed away in 1997, but thanks to this one little dog, abandoned shelter dogs and cats have new opportunities to find loving homes in which they, too, may share in the joy, love and companionship that Dave and Cheryl enjoyed with Maddie.
