Adoption Information
Make pet adoption your first option!

We have friendly and feral cats available for adoption to lifelong homes. We adopt friendly cats to loving indoor-only homes and the feral cats to outdoor rural homes that provide adequate shelter, in addition to food, water and care. All cats, friendly and feral, are delivered to their new home to ensure they are going to a good home.

Feral Cat Adoption fees:
$10 per cat

Why do people adopt outdoor cats?

  1. Cats make great mousers.
  2. They are nature's organic pest control.
  3. They are fun to have around.
  4. They will fill a need and prevent unowned cats from coming to your property.
  5. You can be part of the solution!

We are always in need of rural outdoor homes for our feral and semi-feral cats and only ask for $10 per cat! This is an amazing bargain for a healthy, sterilized and vaccinated cat. Although we value feral cats just as much as friendly cats we ask less for them because we recognize that it is possible that these cats will leave their new rural home. We also appreciate the great financial strain on farmers. Our number one priority is that our cats go to good homes where they will be well cared for.

The outdoor home must provide food, water and shelter sufficient for Wisconsin winters. The cats must be confined for three weeks so that they become acclimated to their new home. In return, the caretakers receive excellent organic rodent control and the satisfaction of knowing they gave a cat another chance at life. We are eager to work with rural property owners willing to provide a permanent, caring, outdoor home for these animals.

Adopters are required to complete an adoption contract when the cats are delivered. If you are interested providing a home for a needy cat please email dianeiverson@juno.com or call 608-242-0462. Feral Adoption Relocation Guidelines

Adoption Fairs
We have weekly adoption fairs every Saturday from 12:00 until 3:30 pm at MadCat Pet Supplies (7820 Mineral Point Rd) and every Sunday at Sly's Place (627 Post Road, Madison) from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

We have a few cats in an enclosure at MadCat but the enclosure is not open to the public. Email tameadoptions@daneferals.org or call 608-467-4067 to set up a time to meet the cats.

Friendly cat adoption fees (as of 9/2/10):

  • $100 for one kitten (up to 6 months)
  • $150 for a pair of kittens
  • $60 for one adult cat (6 months and older)
  • $100 for a pair of bonded adult cats. We will not separate bonded pairs.
  • $130 for one adult and one kitten

Our adoption fees are a real bargain considering the amount of care and treatment our cats receive before being adopted. All of our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for worms (if needed) and tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV).  Cats six months and older are also tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Additional donations are very much appreciated.

Declawing
Dane County Friends of Ferals does not allow our cats to be declawed. The operation and recovery are painful and leave the cat without an essential part of its anatomy.  It can lead to many behavioral problems and turns many cats into biters.
