Syenite

We adopted Bob, who now goes by Dustin, a little over a year ago. We wanted another kitten to keep him company, and a couple of weeks later we were lucky enough to adopt Syenite, n ow known as Nala. They became best friends almost immediately. They snuggle together all the time, and they love
chasing each other up and down the stairs. We love them more than we ever could have imagined, and we are so thankful to Dane County Friends of Ferals for helping us find them!

Sweet Pea

Dear DCFoF,
This past January we adopted "Sweet Pea", who we've renamed Hypatia (gray tabby pictured) as a kitten who's siblings were being thrown and killed by some monster outside of the city. You were able to save her and her mother with the help of some of your awesome volunteers. She was a very scared little kitten when we first got her home, and we often had to coax her out from underneath the bed with toys just so we could get her used to us.
We attempted to keep her separate from our two older males (Ripley who is 9 and was abandoned, and Apollo who is 4 and was adopted from Dane County Humane Society, also the yellow tabby pictured) by putting her in our guest bedroom and letting the boys smell her through the door, or (eventually) see her through child safety gates. But Apollo got into the room when we didn't mean him to, on the third day we had her. Hypatia immediately ran up to him, fluffed up and hissed. Apollo just stared at her like he didn't know what that meant. When he didn't respond back she rubbed up against him, and they have been inseparable every since. It took a little longer for our older kitty Ripley to like her, but just the other day I found them cleaning each other and cuddling on the couch.
I don't know what we would do without our sweet little kitten. She has calmed down a previously anxiety ridden Apollo (who when he got bored would destroy anything paper, or start fights with Ripley), and has brought out the playfulness of a previously shy Ripley (who lost his best kitty friend, Lucien, the previous November).
Thank you so much for bringing this loving little girl out of the cold and into our lives.

Spencer

Carly is very curious and is always ready for a scratch. Spencer was timid at first, but now is affectionate on his terms. He always seems to find a comfy spot nearby us.  They both love their scratching posts and looking out the windows at birds. We feel very lucky to have found them. They are just the home companions we were looking for.

Sandstone

We love Sandstone  She is so much fun.  The boys love her, too.  She gets carried all over and has decided that she needs to cuddle with my 4 year old every night until he falls asleep, so precious.  She loves people, is not shy, and purrs constantly.  As far as the dogs go, I am amazed.  We introduced them very slowly because I did not want a "cat in hiding, dogs on the prowl" situation that so many cat/dog families have.  For first introduction, we had one dog in a wire crate and the cat walking around, then we did the
same with the other dog.  Then, we put the cat in the crate and brought in one dog at a time.  This went on for 3 whole days in one hour increments switching who was in the crate.  We were right there to correct any bad host/hostess behavior.  After that, we put one dog at a time on a leash and let them smell each other.  The cat was awesome.  She walked right up to the dogs nose to nose.  After that, we had the puppy off leash.  Now, all animals have free range to roam and smell and coexist.  I am pretty happy with how quickly it went.  We are also toilet training the cat.  She is on stage 2 already and doing great.

Socks

I'm a big music nerd and Socks is now named 8-track! When I heard it it just clicked I guess! He adapted to his new home very quickly, and is feeling right at home.  He spends a lot of time in his window perch, sleeping in my bed or on my big chair, or chasing one of the many toys he has around the apartment.  He's very affectionate and has really opened up and become quite playful.  Here he is in his new home so you can see how happy he is.  Thank you for everything, he's the best addition to my family that I could have hoped for!
